First meeting, Part 1

Though Rachel and I had been friends for a while, we hadn’t yet met in person we had seen pictures of each other.

Rachel: We have been emailed for long time, In my memories, he only send me one of his picture. Most impression from him, is: he is really active person for reply email, seems like most of his time at front of computer, such a IT person.

I was going to have my business trip in U.S, before I go, I called him FIRST time personally after we had only one business meeting call, I think at least I should say hello for propriety before I go …I didn’t really feel we are old friends as how we talked the email, maybe he wasn’t expect me call.

She was going to be in town for two weeks, and working most of the time, so I first got to talk to her on the phone during the week.  Boy, did we talk… This was the first time we spoke to each other over the phone since we had worked together…we talked and talked…she was so easy to converse with, and getting off the phone took a long time, as we both always had one more thing to say.

anyway, I am so excited been a new country, and I was so busy enjoy my first week. I didn’t really think contact him until the Halloween is coming…I don’t remember why we had a call, but that call…wow…really …

We made plans to get together and go to a Halloween shop, grocery shopping, have some dinner, and then go out for Halloween.

I was concerned what to do when I met her, do I give a friendly hug? shake hands? just stand there awkwardly?

Since I wasn’t sure, I asked her about it over the phone. I think we settled on a handshake, I’m not sure now, because it didn’t matter anyway… I got there before she expected, and she had just painted her nails, so we ended up with the standing there awkwardly and laughing about it.

She was shorter than I expected, and the first thing I noticed was her smile. I know it sounds cliche, but it lit up the room, and she had so much expression when she talked, it was impossible not to like her and be wrapped up in what she had to say. “Full of energy” would describe it best.

She invited me in, and told me to take a seat. I went to the closest chair and picked it up and said, “Where do you want me to take it?” (I know it’s an old joke..)

She stared at me, looking confused for a moment, and then started laughing. I put the chair down, had a seat, and we chatted for a few minutes.

She had a gift for me as well. I wasn’t expecting that at all. It was a Ichigo’s Bankai sword from the “Bleach” anime. One of the things we had in common that we talked about. It was very cool, like a key ring letter opener. It was the first of many gifts she’s given me, and along with all the others, it’s something special I keep close to my heart.

From there we headed out to the Halloween store, continued in part two.
